Easy Heart Knitting Pattern

Here’s an easy heart knitting pattern that can be used as an applique or decoration on other projects like blankets, scarves, or hats. This pattern is simple and great for beginners.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Any yarn (worsted weight or light worsted)
  • Needles: US size 8 (5mm) straight needles
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Abbreviations:

  • CO = Cast on
  • K = Knit
  • P = Purl
  • K2tog = Knit 2 together (decrease)
  • P2tog = Purl 2 together (decrease)
  • BO = Bind off

Instructions:

This heart is knitted in rows on straight needles and uses basic knit and purl stitches to create the shape.

Cast On:

  • CO 5 stitches.

Knit the Left Side of the Heart:

  • Row 1 (Right Side): K5
  • Row 2 (Wrong Side): P5
  • Row 3 (Right Side): K2, K2tog, K1 (4 stitches)
  • Row 4 (Wrong Side): P4
  • Row 5 (Right Side): K1, K2tog, K1 (3 stitches)

Knit the Right Side of the Heart:

  • CO 5 stitches to form the right side of the heart, leaving a gap between the left and right parts.
  • Now repeat the exact same steps as the left side, but in reverse.

Finish the Heart:

  • After completing both sides of the heart, you can stitch them together along the edges using a tapestry needle. Weave in any loose ends.
